Text Adjustment

Cyrk Text Converter not only converts text between different formats, it can also be used for making different kinds of text adjustment. Preference dialogues let you specify exactly how text is adjusted.

Quotation Marks

"Straight" quotation marks can be converted to curly ones – or to «French» or to wDanish ones (there are other options too).

Likewise, 'straight' apostrophes can be converted to curly ones, as in: That’s great!

Unwanted Space

Double space characters and space characters at the beginning and at the end of a paragraph can be removed.

Dashes

Unattached hypens (-) can be converted to the slightly longer dashes (). Also, two hyphens (--) can be converted to the even longer “M-dash” ().

Ellipsis (…)

Three adjacent dots ... can be converted to an ellipsis that is a single character with three dots (). In some fonts three dots and an ellipsis do not look the same.

Formatting Characters

Sometimes the “formatting characters” *, / and _ are used for bold, italic and underline text. A bold word might then be written like *this*. Cyrk Text Converter can understand and convert to formatting using the formatting characters. For instance, /italic/ can be converted to italic or vice-versa.

Another example of a formatting character is • that is sometimes used to indicate a list item. Cyrk Text Converter can convert lines starting with the • character to “real” list items.

Line Breaks

Simple texts sometimes have a fixed line width, and the text is meant to be viewed with a fixed width font (fx Courier eller Monaco):

This is a small example. It is not very
long and it is very "stupid". But I guess
that it's ok--it is after all just an
*example*.

And now to something completely different...

You can use Cyrk Text Converter to convert a text with fixed line width to a text where text “floats” correctly. The result can be something like this:

This is a small example. It is not very long and it is very “stupid”. But I guess that it’s ok—it is after all just an example.

And now to something completely different…

Like this, the text is much better suited for printing, for being showed on the Internet etc. Notice that if you change the width of this window, the text will be readjusted to fit the new width.

NB: The grey formatting characters are, of course, usually not visible.

Cyrk Text Converter can also convert text without line breaks to a text with a fixed line width.
